Alka Bahal: Welcome to the Think Factory’s Workplace Podcast powered by OGC Solutions, the podcast where we explore the ever-evolving landscape of workplace dynamics. My name is Alka Bahal. I’ll be your host today. I am very pleased to have with me Rachel Platt, CEO of PLATTinum Consulting. Welcome to the podcast, Rachel.

Rachel Platt: I’ll be your host today. I am very pleased to have with me Rachel Platt, CEO of PLATTinum Consulting. Welcome to the podcast, Rachel.

Alka Bahal: My pleasure. So tell me about PLATTinum Consulting.

Rachel Platt: Well, I think I have a story like many others in that I spent over 20 years in corporate. I have always been in one area of human resources or another and I aspired to a chief people officer, chief human resource officer role.

I got that role and realized that it wasn’t the right thing for me. And very quickly thereafter started Platinum. And really our focus is on bringing some of the best practices from large organizations with lots of resources to small and mid-size organizations and really helping to create the environment and the strategy around their people and where people can thrive.

So it’s not about day-to-day HR and compliance. It really is that programmatic, systemic initiatives that really help organizations and leaders that know that without their people that they cannot meet their mission, they cannot meet their goals. So they need to find ways to inspire and really just create the culture where folks think they can thrive.

Alka Bahal: Interesting. And so what advantages do you think you bring to a company that’s different than what you did when you were in the in-house role?

Rachel Platt: I think there’s a few things. When I’m honest, I think to myself, these are things that I had suggested internally, or even sometimes that my clients are suggesting internally.

But sometimes the executive team, they need to hear it from an outsider. That is part of the challenge of being in a human resources role that it occasionally, as much as you may have a seat at the table, it occasionally is still seen as a support role. So while I find that to be unfortunate, sometimes just having an outside person does help.

But what I personally and what PLATTinum really brings is the fact that we have worked with so many organizations of different sizes at different life cycles. And we really customize based upon the best practices, the next practices, the research. We are very data driven. And therefore, we have expertise that someone who is very internally focused may not have the capacity, the time, or the experience and exposure to be able to bring really customized and creative solutions to big problems. And that’s what we do remarkably well in a very programmatic way.

Alka Bahal: And how would an employer know that it’s time to contact Platinum, it’s time to bring in the big guns?
